The amazing thing about designers is we’re each so unique…
It’s so cool how you don’t have to be a certain way to succeed in this industry.
As I’ve really gotten to know my own gifts and talents, I’ve realized something…
I’m pretty much TERRIBLE at 90% of the things you need to do in business. But the other 10% I’m totally brilliant at!
And that’s okay… because I can get support in the areas where I need it. And when I stay in my zone of brilliance, I’m going to do more than anyone else could in those areas.
The same goes for you.
You’re going to have even more success when you figure out your particular brand of brilliance… and stop trying to be good at everything.
I’m talking finding that special sparkle only YOU have.
Once you figure out what that is – you can leverage it. And when you leverage it, suddenly business is going to totally change for you.
Things will get easier. Decisions will come more naturally. You’ll feel more turned on in and by your work.

The really cool thing is that this goes beyond just jewelry design…
Even if you’re a fashion or accessories designer… heck, even if you’re making dog treats – this is going to apply to you!

So let’s dive into a couple of the most common types…
Creative Force Of Nature
Designers with this as their top strength love design – but above all, they love interacting with their customers. They are naturally outgoing and actually enjoy talking about their work.
They do love design but they also understand… once they grow their business, they may need to let someone else take parts of that process on. And that’s okay with them!
These people are basically a never-ending flow of ideas…
If this is you, my biggest advice for you is to spend time being creative, spend time engaging with customers… but also spend the time in the back end of your business so you can really get the support around you that you need to grow.
Maker With the Mostest
These types absolutely love working with their hands… One thing that’s amazing about makers with the mostest is that they’re actually inspired by the materials they use to create.
It’s the tactile experience that really gets them turned on in their work.
As a business grows, this type is likely to continue making their original sample lines… whereas other types may sketch out the designs and be okay with someone else managing the next steps.
If this is you, you need to remember that you really are your best salesperson. Even though you love being behind the bench, don’t let this stop you from getting out and engaging with your customers!
These people truly view the world as artists. These are innovators… they’re the ones who are creating the techniques the makers are learning.
Artists love problem-solving. When someone else may give up and abandon a technique that’s not working for them – the artist will sit with it until they figure it out.
These types really need to focus on two things: confidence + mindset.
In art school, you may have learned that everything should be about the art. And so you master that, but you don’t actually learn how to build a business!
You’ve gotta work on your confidence so you can believe your work is good enough. Not in an arrogant way – but in a way that gives you the strength you need to get out and advocate and sell for yourself!
