Filigree is a delicate ornamental work of silver, gold, or other metals often used in jewelry and other decorative objects. The word can also be used to describe anything that is very delicate or fanciful.

In the antique jewelry business, the filigree was commonly used in the Art Deco, c. 1920 – 1935. Metals, precious and unprecious, were die-cast into extravagant pieces of jewelry, each displaying a very unique and often dainty design. These designs are what antique jewelry dealers refer to as filigree.

Filigree is also used to describe earlier and later jewelry that has lacey wire work or other fine detailing.
